"Oracy is a key strand that I will be focusing upon across the whole school, this CPD has opened my eyes to the importance of Oracy within the classroom and has in fact highlighted that it is perhaps the most important strand of literacy to tackle before moving on to reading and writing strategies."

"Prime7 worked with Dr Jim Rogers to deliver an oracy project across the academic year. The key focus of this has been to make the ‘implicit, explicit’ and to work with teachers to raise teacher and pupil awareness of oracy. The impact of this has been significant in helping teachers to make pedagogical choices that support pupils’ development of their oracy skills. For example, partner talk can be used to deepen children’s understanding from each other and build on one another’s responses. We have introduced ‘Talk Rules’ across the schools in the trust and this promotes quality interaction between pupil and teacher as well as pupil to pupil. There are so many elements to oracy that we just ‘do’ but that could be so much better when focused on and taught."

"The Oracy course that I attended last year has taught me so much in terms of what Oracy is and why it’s so important. I had a limited understanding of how to deconstruct the layers of Oracy and as a result I was struggling to create an Oracy strategy that I could begin to implement. The course opened my eyes to the importance of exploration within my own context. It gave me so many tools to help me reflect on current practices within my school and it gave me the confidence to start my implementation journey, a journey which so far has been extremely positive. I also feel equipped to track and monitor the progress of the implementation plan, something which I struggled with before attending the course. Oracy has now become a common language within my school setting and has even stretched beyond the classroom and is evident through our hugely successful Debate Club. The Oracy course has been invaluable to me on my journey as Literacy Lead."
